About Us

The London African Film Festival exists to increase the exposure of African cinema to the general public and to promote the same with a view to its reaching a wider audience. The Festival was founded as Africa at the Pictures and has been providing a platform for African cinema to UK audiences since 1991. It has organized regular events and festivals on African cinema that have included ‘Filming Against the Odds’ a conference on African cinema in 1991, African Women Film Makers Seminar in 1993 at the National Film Theatre (BFI) both hosted by the Africa Centre. ‘Digital Africa’ a workshop at Channel 4. These events were all supported by screenings at various venues across London. The new name, the London African Film Festival was first used in 2008 for the festival (run jointly with the Royal African Society) and will be used for all our future events.
