Un Amour d'Enfant (Child's Love)

With his latest feature film, Ben Diogaye Beye takes us with great sensitivity into the world of a group of 12-year old Senegalese children who are discovering friendship and the emotions of love for the first time. The film's setting is the busy metropolis of Dakar, with politics hovering always in the air, and Beye successfully conjures the realities and nuances of modern urban Africa, with all its difficulties and humour. As for all children, the schoolyard is the theatre for emotions, and there they fight and challenge each other, but also form and break friendships, with laughter and tears marking the rhythm of their days. Love slips between glances, laughs at fingertips, and is written on 'leaves of ice.'
